What’s Budding
This is the traditional time for contemplation and resolutions. It is also the time for trade shows and lots of new product introductions. We will be attending the Tropical Plant Industry Exposition  in Florida mid-month, and closer to home, the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association  show and conference in Lansing. I love walking the trade show floor, seeing new plant varieties and new products. I also enjoy meeting the people who, all too often, have been just a voice on the phone, or sometimes simply the source and receiver of email. Trade shows are both a great business tool and a social event. As you can imagine, plant industry trade shows are full of plants and displays of equipment and services related to the growing, packaging, transportation, and sale of those plants. Nationally-known speakers offer educational opportunities, and vendors come from around the country and the world to the national shows. We often add growers to our source list and introduce new varieties to our design palate. Seeing and trying out products and equipment helps us formulate plans to add to our capabilities.
We do a lot of trade show display and décor work ourselves, adding greenery to booths, softening the stage for a speaker or panel, adding centerpieces for luncheon tables, grouping foliage and flowering plants for dramatic entrance displays. The experience of being both a provider of the experience, and then experiencing the same show as a guest is a treat.
If you are attending a trade show as a guest, look to see where plants and flowers add color and soften the edges of displays. If you are planning a show or a booth, we would love to help you stand out and create a memorable experience for your guests.
